Compact sedans enjoy great popularity in India due to the practicality and the prestige value they offer. The compact sedan segment is crowded with accomplished cars like the Honda Amaze, Ford Aspire, Maruti Dzire and the others. Hyundai entered the segment a little late, in 2015, with the Xcent. It quickly gained popularity with both private and fleet buyers. Now, Hyundai has revamped the i10-based sedan and re-named it ‘Aura’. Can the Aura manage to bring some aura to the segment? We find out.

Exteriors – The Aura has a familiar nose with cascading grille, pointed double DRLs and swept-back headlamps. We like those aggressive-looking air damps and the thick band of chrome around the grille. The side profile feels busy with too many lines and creases. But the Aura does look proportionate and some elements like the blackened C-pillars make it look upmarket. Chrome door handles and the new Vintage Brown paint shade looks nice. We also like the complex design of the alloy wheels.

Elements such as the blackened C-pillar, boot-lid spoiler and plenty of chrome give the Aura an upscale look

But the rear-look of the car is quite questionable and subjective to the buyer. Having said that, it does not look stubby or awkward like the Xcent. Part of the credit goes to the spoiler-like treatment to the boot-lid which looks neatly done. We like the new design for the taillights and the bold ‘Aura’ nameplate. Hyundai could’ve used chrome judiciously in this part as it looks a tad overdone. The loading lip high and wide. It might cause trouble getting the luggage in.

Hyundai Xcent’s successor based on the Grand i10 NIOS, Hyundai Aura has been launched with a starting price of Rs. 5.79 lakhs (ex-showroom). It is available with three engine options and 12 variants.

In terms of styling, the Hyundai Aura has a similar front profile like the Grand i10 NIOS. There are some unique elements such as the twin boomerang LED DRLs, new grille and bumper design. The side profile gets a floating roof effect thanks to the blacked out C-pillar. The rear gets new design elements including large tail lights, new bumper and a good dose of chrome.

The interior is exactly the same as the Grand i10 NIOS. The colour theme is different though as the Aura gets satin bronze and grey dual tone dashboard.

Some of the key highlights of the Hyundai Aura include Cruise Control, Wireless Charger, USB Fast Charger, Rear AC Vents, Driver rear view monitor, iBLUE Audio Remote Smart Phone App, Arkamys audio system, touchscreen infotainment system, etc.

Hyundai is offering BS6 compliant petrol and diesel engine options with the Aura. It comes with a new 1.0-litre T-GDI turbo petrol engine that produces 100 PS at 6000 RPM and 172 Nm of torque at 1500-4000 RPM. This engine is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission and returns a claimed fuel efficiency of 20.50 km/l.

Next up is the 1.2-litre Kappa petrol engine that produces 83 PS at 6000 RPM and 114 Nm at 4000 RPM. This motor comes paired to a 5-speed manual and AMT gearbox options. The MT version offers a claimed 20.50 km/l of fuel economy while the AMT version returns 20.10 km/l.

The 1.2-litre Ecotorq diesel engine produces 75 PS at 4000 RPM and 190 Nm at 1750-2250 RPM. This engine also comes with 5-speed MT and AMT gearbox options. The MT returns 25.35 km/l of claimed fuel economy while the AMT returns 25.40 km/l.

The Hyundai Xcent has been a fairly successful compact sedan and it is based on the Grand i10. Now, the Korean automaker launched the Grand i10 NIOS in India few months back and we all know that they will launch a compact sedan based on that too.

The Hyundai Aura has now been revealed. It will be sold alongside the Xcent because the Xcent will now cater only to fleet and commercial buyers while the Aura will be targeted towards private buyers. The Hyundai Aura shares a lot of components with the Grand i10 NIOS.

Hyundai had revealed official sketches of he vehicle earlier this week and while the production-spec car doesn’t look exactly as shown in the sketches, it does look very appealing and way better than the Xcent. Being a sub-4-metre sedan, the Aura looks decently proportionate.

The front profile comes with projector headlamps and fog lamps, twin boomerang shaped LED DRLs with satin front grille. The side profile reveals new 15-inch diamond cut alloy wheels. The rear profile looks fresh with LED tail lamps giving it a wide stance.

The Hyundai Grand i10 NIOS comes loaded with a lot of features and the equipment list is quite impressive, and the Aura is expected to follow suit. It will come with a new 1.0-litre turbo petrol with 5-speed manual transmission. Other engine options are 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol and 1.2-litre turbo diesel engines with either an MT or an AMT.

The 1.2-litre Kappa VTVT petrol engine churns out 83 PS and 114 Nm while the 1.2-litre Ecotorq mill produces 75 PS and 190 Nm. The 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine produces 100 PS and 171 Nm torque. The petrol and diesel engines are already BS6 compliant. Hyundai is also offering 1.2-litre CNG engine option.

Some of the features include 8-inch touchscreen infotainment with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Arkamys sound system, 5.3-inch digital speedometer, wireless charging, driving rear view monitor, iBlue Audio remote smartphone app, etc.

The Arkamys audio system comes with 4 modes – natural, live, club and lounge.

The Hyundai Aura will be launched in India in early 2020, and it will rival other compact sedans like the Maruti Dzire, Honda Amaze and Ford Aspire.

Hyundai has released the official design sketches of the Aura compact sedan. The car will be unveiled in its production guise on 19th December.

The successor to the Hyundai Xcent will get drastic styling changes inside out. The front profile looks very similar to the Grand i10 NIOS. The headlights will get black treatment along with a few changes on the grille and bumper.

The rear profile looks all-new with a new set of sharp looking tail lamps. The boot design looks clean as the number plate housing has moved down to the bumper. There is a touch of chrome lining on the boot lid.

The B and C-pillars are blacked out to give a sporty appeal and even the bumpers get black inlets to make it look more youthful. Hyundai is also promoting the design as ‘Sensuously Sporty’.

The Hyundai Aura will be offered with three BS6 compliant diesel engine options. It will get a new 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The other two 1.2-litre petrol and diesel engines will be carried forward from the Xcent but in BS6 guise and will be offered with 5-speed MT and AMT gearbox options.

Hyundai has started teasing their upcoming compact sedan Aura. It is a successor to the Hyundai Xcent just like the recently launched Grand i10 successor NIOS. The carmaker will continue to sell the current Xcent for fleet operators and hence have decided to drop the name in Aura.

The Korean carmaker has revealed the engine options of the Aura today. All diesel and petrol engines will come with BS6 compliance at the time of launch.

The Hyundai Aura will get a new 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that is also available in the Venue. The Aura is likely to get it in a lower state of tune producing around 100 BHP. This engine will be mated to a 5-speed manual transmission only.

The 1.2-litre 4-cylinder Kappa petrol engine will be offered that currently produces 83 HP and 114 Nm. The 1.2-litre 3-cylinder diesel engine will be available as well that churns out 75 HP and 190 Nm in BS4 guise. With BS6 compliance we can expect similar power and torque output. Both of these engine will be offered with 5-speed MT and AMT gearbox options.

You can expect the Hyundai Aura to share most of the styling and features with the Grand i10 NIOS. The compact sedan is expected to be launched in early 2020 around the Auto Expo.

The Hyundai Aura will compete with the likes of the Maruti Dzire, Honda Amaze, Volkswagen Ameo, Ford Aspire, etc.

Opposed to speculations, Hyundai has confirmed that its new compact sedan does not bear the ‘Xcent’ tag and instead is named Aura. The company is tight-lipped on every other information and only states that the name is inspired by the ‘vibrance of positivity’ and a reflection of the ‘state of being’ of the one driving it.

The Hyundai Aura will bear a softer silhouette than the Xcent. The sub-4-metre sedan will feature the brand’s signature cascading grille with a honeycomb mesh finish. Spy pictures revealed that this next-gen compact sedan will share most of its design elements with the new Grand i10 Nios. For example, the boomerang-shaped LED DRLs will be carried forward from the new hatchback.

Not just the exterior, the cabin will resemble the Nios as well since the 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will be borrowed as well. The Aura might offer Hyundai’s new connected BlueLink car tech in the higher variants.

Though there’s no official statement about the same, the Hyundai Aura is expected to be powered by BS6-compliant versions of the 1.2-litre Kappa petrol engine, as well as the U2 1.2-litre diesel powertrain. A manual gearbox along with an AMT is likely to be on offer. Once introduced in India, the Aura will rival the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Tata Tigor, Honda Amaze, Ford Aspire, Tata Tigor, and Renault’s upcoming compact sedan.
