]]>

Here we have the exhaust note video of the Yamaha FZX which is scheduled for launch on 18th June 2021.

The retro style motorcycle is based on the 150cc FZ FI and unsurprisingly, it does sound pretty similar to the naked bike, which, in other words means it is rather muted.

We disclosed in December 2020 that Yamaha has applied and received the trademark for the FZX moniker and early test mules of the motorcycle were spotted in March.

Thus far, it is clear that the styling of the commuter bike has been inspired by the Japanese firm’s XSR range of motorcycles. Thus, it will come with a circular LED headlamp, brushed aluminium-finish parts, a raised handlebar, flat seat and short tail.

Despite it looking different to the regular FZ series of motorcycles (the FZX is a bit longer, wider and taller than the FZ FI) the mechanical parts will be identical to that of the FZ. The 149cc engine also puts out the same 12.4 PS of power at 7250 RPM.

Similarly, the bike’s suspension and braking hardware are set to be borrowed from the FZ FI, which should mean it would be a potent city bike. That said, the Yamaha FZX exhaust note could have been a bit deeper to go with its overall retro vibe.

Expect the FZX to command a premium over the FZ FI and cost close to the Vintage Green edition of the motorcycle range.

Yamaha FZ-X Spotted Side
It has been designed to be a stylish and comfortable commuter

The Yamaha FZ-X has been spotted undisguised during a television commercial (TVC) shoot which took place near the Atal Tunnel in Himachal Pradesh.

These images have been obtained thanks to MotorBeamer Surya Dagar who captured images of the FZ-X while the TVC shoot was taking place.

Based on the FZ FI, the retro style motorcycle comes with a circular headlight with DRL, a fuel tank styled to look similar to the 1 on the brand’s XSR range of bikes, a flat seat, and short tail.

It even gets fork gaiters, metal brackets for the headlight and on the front fender and an old school pillion grab bar to go with the retro theme. It is a shame that Yamaha did not give the bike circular mirrors and wire-spoked wheels, while the radiator panel section and tyre hugger look out of place.

Apart from the styling of the recently spotted Yamaha FZ-X, what is also notable is the colour scheme as, apart from the fuel tank which comes in the body colour, all of the cycle parts are blacked out.

At least 3 colours, namely Black, Blue and Orange, will be on offer with the bike when it gets launched and from the spy shots, it is evident that different saddle colour options will also be available.

Leaked type approval document shows that the bike will be powered by a 149cc single cylinder motor good for 12.4 PS of maximum power at 7250 RPM, the motorcycle will be 30 mm longer (at 2020 mm), 5 mm wider (at 785 mm) and 35 mm taller (at 1115 mm) than the FZ FI, with which it shares the 1330 mm wheelbase.

Yamaha has gone for a comfortable riding position for the rider, which can be ascertained based on the position of the handlebar and foot pegs for the rider. The passenger foot pegs are placed a bit higher though. Other parts such as the instrument cluster and brakes look to have been borrowed from the FZ FI, but the tyres are semi-knobby jobbies.

Thus far, Yamaha has been tight-lipped about the launch timeline of the FZ-X, but it should take place in the coming months. Price-wise, expect the motorcycle to cost a bit more than the FZ FI.

Yamaha FZ-X Spied
It would be a more stylish commuter product from Yamaha

The Yamaha FZ-X, an upcoming retro style variant of the FZ FI, has been spied yet again, this time without camouflage.

Only 1 image of a partially assembled FZ-X is available as of now, but it is enough to give us a clear indication as to how the front portion of the motorcycle will look like.

It is clear that the motorcycle’s design has been inspired by Yamaha’s own XSR range of bikes and the shape of the fuel tank says as much. Even the circular headlight that has a DRL ring divided into 3 sections is held by a bracket similar to the one used XSR155.

In addition, like the test mule spotted earlier, the Yamaha FZ-X spied recently has fork gaiters and a silver-coloured radiator cowl-esque panel sitting right in front of the tank.

Moreover, the bike will get a restyled front fender which also comes finished in a shade of silver. But, the indicators are the same units used in the FZ FI.

Although the rear section of the bike cannot be seen, we can expect Yamaha to make use of a simple circular stop light that will sit proudly on the rear fender, similar to the setup used in the XSR155.

Since the specs of the FZ-X have already been leaked, there will be no surprises on that front. The bike will be powered by a 149cc motor good for 12.4 PS maximum power. The torque too should be the same at 13.3 Nm tops.

The motorcycle which is likely to weigh around 135 kg, like the FZ FI, is expected to be put on sale in the market later this year. It should command a premium over the bike it is based on.

If the FZ-X does well in the market, it might well prompt Yamaha to launch the XSR155 in India as a more sporty retro-styled alternative in the 150cc segment where the firm is a strong player.

Yamaha FZ-X Specs
Yamaha wants more sales in the 150cc segment by the looks of it

Leaked type approval document of the Yamaha FZ-X has let out the specs of the upcoming motorcycle.

Ever since Yamaha trademarked the title FZ-X back in November 2020, speculations ran rife about the kind of motorcycle the Japanese brand would come up with.

It was thought to be a small adventure motorcycle, but spy shots of a retro-style motorcycle that emerged in March crushed that theory.

Now, we can state with confidence that the Yamaha FZ-X will be based on the FZ FI, for the type approval document states it has a 149cc heart putting out 12.4 PS at 7250 RPM, the same as the 150cc commuter bike.

Further, the leaked Yamaha FZ-X specs show that the bike will be 2020 mm long, 785 mm wide, 1115 mm tall with a wheelbase of 1330 mm.

On the other hand, the 2021 Yamaha FZ FI is 1990 mm long, 780 mm wide, 1080 mm tall and has the same 1330 mm wheelbase.

When it comes to how the motorcycle will look, it is evident that Yamaha will give it a restyled fuel tank similar to the one used in its XSR range of bikes and retro-inspired styling overall.

The bike will come with a long, flat seat, with slightly forward set foot pegs, a short tail, and the same suspension and braking components as the FZ FI. The telescopic forks do get gaiters in addition, though.

When it gets launched, the Yamaha FZ-X should help the FZ range, which garnered close to 17,800 unit sales in February, find more buyers every month. Price-wise, it should cost below Rs. 1.10 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi).

The post Yamaha FZ-X Trademark Application Filed, Likely For Upcoming ADV appeared first on MotorBeam.

Yamaha FZ-X Trademark

Yamaha has filed the FZ-X trademark application in India and we think it is an adventure (ADV) motorcycle based on its FZ25 series.

Around this time a year before, it came to light that the 2-wheeler maker is considering launching a small ADV since the segment is slowly but surely growing in the country (read article here).

The numbers back it up as well. In November 2020, the Hero Xpulse 200 saw 1372 takers, while Royal Enfield sold 1550 units of the Himalayan. This provides a perfect opportunity for Yamaha to increase its sales and also enter a new segment.

Since its FZ25 is not selling all that well at the moment, developing an ADV using the platform will help the bikemaker better make use of it while also saving itself some cash.

Of course, Yamaha is expected to retain the 249cc single-cylinder engine, putting out 20.8 PS and 20.1 Nm, and 5-speed gearbox combination.

The digital cluster and switchgear will be carried over too. But, Yamaha will work on the geometry, suspension, and overall off-road capabilities of the bike.

Expect the motorcycle, for which Yamaha FZ-X trademark application has been filed, to come with a slightly different look, while maintaining the core design of the FZ25.

We would like to see wire-spoked wheels, but that might be pushing our luck a bit too far. But, switchable ABS should be offered along with Yamaha’s latest Bluetooth connectivity suite.

Having looked at the segment for quite some time, it looks like Yamaha is finally ready to take the plunge. However, the FZ-X will not be cheap, for the FZ25 in itself costs Rs. 1.52 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) and the ADV based on it will only cost more.
