TVS Motor Company has launched the NTorq 125 SuperSquad Edition, inspired by Marvel’s Avengers, at Rs. 77,865/- (ex-showroom, Delhi).

This new edition came about as the company associated itself with Disney India’s consumer products business.

Three variants of the SuperSquad edition, namely – Invincible Red, Stealth Black and Combat Blue are inspired by three superheroes from the Marvel Universe and they are Iron Man, Black Panther and Captain America.

The TVS NTorq SuperSquad Edition logo and the iconic “A” denoting the “Avengers” are prominently placed on the front panel, leg shield, and below the speedometer.

Each Stealth Black, Invincible Red and Combat Blue variants sport elements of the superhero on which they are based on such as their suit and the year in which the character was introduced in the Marvel Universe.

Furthermore, the TVS Connect App of the SuperSquad Edition will come with customised UI, again, inspired by the fictional characters. TVS also says each app screen has a unique character trait of the selected superhero.

With the introduction of the new SuperSquad edition, TVS has not made any mechanical changes to the scooter. To read about our latest review of the 2020 TVS NTorq 125, click here.

2020 TVS NTorq 125 Review

Bike tested: TVS NTorq 125 BS6; Road Test No. 1223; Test Location: Mumbai

Price OTR Mumbai: Rs. 96,000/-

The 2020 NTorq 125 isn’t very different from the previous model and it is a good as well as a bad thing!

The TVS NTorq 125 is one of the sportiest scooters in the segment and has been around for about 2 years. It did not receive any major update until last year when TVS launched the Race Edition. It is now BS6 compliant, while it still looks the same and even retains all the previous features. However, it gets FI now and there has been another huge change. The price. The BS6 variant is up to Rs. 10,000/- costlier than the BS4 version and this is one of the steepest price hikes we’ve seen for any scooter. So, is it worth it? We tell you all the good and the bad about the updated TVS NTorq 125 to see if it justifies the extra cash!

MotorQuest: The TVS NTorq was the first TVS product to get an all-new 3-valve 125cc mill. It was launched right before the 2018 Auto Expo and took the market by storm as it was the only scooter to get Bluetooth Connectivity features and the first-ever scooter to get an engine kill switch in India. Moreover, it looked sporty and was the only scooter to take the fight to the Aprilia SR 125 in terms of aesthetics and performance.

TVS NTorq 125 Race Edition Review 20
The TVS NTorq 125 Race Edition is definitely one of the sportiest scooters out there!

Styling: If you liked how the NTorq looked in the past, we have good news for you! The updated NTorq 125 looks exactly the same as before. It has received no aesthetic updates whatsoever, and it’ll be tough to differentiate the BS6 model from the BS4 model. However, this is large because there wasn’t much wrong with the NTorq’s looks in the first place. It looks radical and gets a lot of sporty touches like rear vents, stubby muffler, diamond cut alloys and 3D logos. Further, the numerous colour options to choose from are like a cherry on the cake. However, for the Race Edition, you get just 2 colour options.

TVS NTorq 125 Race Edition Review 4
While the halogen headlamp looks dated and unimpressive, the one on the Race Edition looks futuristic

The TVS NTorq 125 Race Edition looks pretty radical from the front

For the lower variants, the disappointing bit is the halogen headlamp. It looks decent with the LED DRL but the competition has switched to full-LED headlamps which gives them an upper hand. However, if you opt for the top-of-the-line Race Edition of the NTorq, you get a full-LED headlamp, carbon fibre type seat cover, and sporty graphics which enhance the character of the scooter. Also, the Race Edition now comes in a yellow colour option as well. To sum it up, while the halogen headlamp is a bummer, the TVS NTorq 125 is still a handsome chap. But the Race Edition is definitely the most aesthetically pleasing out of all the variants.

TVS NTorq 125 Race Edition Review 9
There are no updates to the speedometer, but it stills remains ahead of its time for the scooter segment

Instrument Cluster and Switchgear: Just like the looks, not much is new here as well. The NTorq still boasts of a fully digital display which gets features like a personalised welcome message, three trip meters, ride stats, lap-timer, and even an engine temperature gauge. But the most impressive feature is the Smart Connect Bluetooth Connectivity. The connectivity features include phone battery display, incoming call notifications, automatic SMS reply, navigation assistance, signal strength display, etc. This is where the NTorq gaps every other scooter in the segment. Even high-end motorcycles don’t offer some of these features!

One of the biggest plus points of the TVS NTorq 125 is its premium and completely digital instrument cluster

Moving on, the switchgear is unchanged as well. It feels good to use and isn’t clunky or plasticky. The NTorq was the first scooter to get an engine kill switch, but some brands have added this feature as well. Hence, TVS has gone ahead to introduce a new Hazard light switch, but only on the Race Edition. While it might not be beneficial, it’s still an addition. All in all, the instrument console is feature-rich and no other scooter comes close to it in this category.

TVS NTorq 125 Race Edition Review 13
The double-stitched seat offers good comfort and looks premium, thanks to the carbon fibre type fabric and red stitching

Ergonomics: The NTorq is a comfortable scooter, and it serves its purpose well. The riding triangle is upright but sportier than normal and commuting duties will be fine but not for stretched durations. There’s enough space on the footboard as well but you can’t stretch your legs too much. Further, the BS6 version retains the double-stitched Hysteresis seat that’s wide enough to accommodate two healthy adults. Even the mirrors work well and provide you with a good view of what you’re leaving behind.

TVS NTorq 125 Race Edition Review 22
The storage capacity isn’t bad, and you can store a medium size helmet with ease

The LED light and the USB port in the boot are practical features which make the NTorq feel more premium than the competition

But the scooter isn’t the most comfortable one out there, and it is more suitable for young adults. Lastly, the under-seat storage has remained the same and at 22-litres, it doesn’t accommodate a full-sized helmet. However, the storage unit gets a USB port and an LED light which gives you a premium feel. Ergonomically, the scooter isn’t chart-topping in terms of comfort but will attract enthusiasts looking for a sportier feel.

TVS NTorq 125 Race Edition Review 18
The only 125cc motor to get Race Tuned FI in India

Performance: Just like the majority, the biggest change in the TVS NTorq is that the engine is now BS6 compliant. TVS has managed to retain similar performance figures, though. The air-cooled 124.8cc motor gets RT-FI now and makes 9.25 BHP at 7000 RPM and 10.5 Nm of torque at 5500 RPM. Additionally, the engine feels better in terms of refinement too. However, the NTorq is actually slower than its BS4 counterpart by a significant margin. The BS4 NTorq had an exciting urgency to its power delivery that the BS6 unit lacks. We think the stricter emission norms are to blame for this. The scooter still cruises at 60 km/hr effortlessly and manages a top speed of 96 km/hr (VBOX tested), though, but it just takes a few seconds longer to reach there.

TVS NTorq 125 Race Edition Review 31
The scooter is now more tamed than before but it still feels fast

The BS6 motor has the same power figures on paper, but it is a full second slower in reaching 60 km/hr

The throttle response is too good thanks to the RT-FI. While the low-end is strong with a decent mid-range, the scooter does not feel the need for speed in the top-end. During our test, the scooter returned 38-42 km/l which is comparable to the previous version. We think if ridden calmly, the scooter can return even better fuel economy. The FI also means that there’s a surge in refinement, and the vibrations have reduced to a bare minimum now. Further, the fuel tank capacity has also gone up by 0.8-litres which rounds the up the full range to about 240 km which is a tad less than the competition. All in all, the scooter might not be as fast as the previous version, but it feels much more refined and still retains its strong points.

TVS NTorq 125 Race Edition Review 29
The scooter offers feels very planted in corners and in a straight line at high-speeds

Riding Dynamics: Following the BS6 update, the NTorq has put on 2 kgs but truth be told, you won’t feel any of it while riding. The scooter feels very similar to the previous version and retains all the good and the bad points. The good bits include agile handling, good cornering capabilities, strong and high-speed stability. The scooter also gets 12-inch rims with wider tyres than the competition. All this means that the NTorq will probably outperform most of its rivals in corners. The telescopic suspension at the front and the monoshock at the rear add to its cornering capabilities as well. The high-rigid underbone chassis also complements to the brilliant riding dynamics.

TVS NTorq 125 Race Edition Review 30
Be sure to avoid bumpy roads and rough patches as the TVS NTorq has a stiff suspension setup

The TVS NTorq munches corners, which is not something you usually hear about a scooter!

However, the suspension might not be the best for city conditions. Rough patches and potholes will hit hard, and other scooters in the segment offer more versatility here. This again adds to the fact that this scooter targets youngsters who are looking for sportiness. Moving on, the brakes continue to impress. The 220 mm disc brake offers a stupendous bite and inspires a lot of confidence, and the same can be said for the rear drum setup. For added safety, the scooter also gets SBT (TVS’ term for a combined braking system). If you usually ride on paved roads and want sporty riding dynamics, the NTorq should definitely be your pick.

TVS NTorq 125 Race Edition Review 28
The riding dynamics are much more suited for committed riding rather than commuting

Verdict: While the TVS NTorq might not be the best scooter out there, it is arguably one of the best 125cc scooters by an Indian manufacturer. The BS6 update is a step in the right direction, but the question is, is it worth the extra money? Sort of. The NTorq is still a super-capable scooter and has retained all its plus points like the excellent speedometer, good riding dynamics, strong brakes and many other premium features. It has gotten a little less value-for-money, but so have almost all other BS6 products. In conclusion, we think that if you’re looking for a good-looking scooter with sporty handling and can compromise a little on overall comfort, the NTorq should be your pick. However, if you’re on a budget and comfort is your priority, there are better options in the market.

TVS NTorq 125 Race Edition Review 21
The rear end adds to the sharp design of the scooter and gets an LED taillight

What’s Cool

* Cornering capabilities are the best in class
* Excellent braking performance and bite for a scooter
* The scooter looks great, especially the Race Edition variant
* The digital speedometer with the connectivity features is still unbeaten

What’s Not So Cool

* Not as comfortable as the competition
* Least fuel efficient scooter in the 125cc category
* The engine no longer has the need-for-speed top-end grunt

Alternatives – Honda Activa 125, Yamaha Fascino 125, Suzuki Access 125, Piaggio Vespa 125

TVS NTORQ 125 Report Test Review
The TVS NTorq 125 rivals the Honda Grazia and the Suzuki Burgman Street

TVS NTorq 125 Pros & Cons

After riding the TVS NTorq 125 on a race track, we brought it to the open roads for testing. This is where the scooter will be ridden by a majority of the buyers and like its competition, the NTorq 125 has some things going for it while it lacks in some others. So we tell you some pros and cons of the scooter that you should keep in mind before buying it.
Pros:

TVS NTORQ 125 Video Review
The TVS Ntorq 125 has a good suspension setup to absorb those occasional bumps

Instrument Cluster: The TVS NTorq 125 gets a first in the segment, fully-digital, Bluetooth enabled SmartConnect instrumentation panel that is feature rich. Apart from the regular speed and fuel readings, you get a lap-timer, 0-60 km/hr timing, call and message details and navigation for convenience.

Brakes: The braking power on the NTorq is simply excellent. The front petal disc is the same as the one found on the Apache series. However, it is smaller in size but the scooter is light too which makes them go very well with each other. The rear brake is a drum and does well to complement the front disc. The 100 section front and 110 section rear have enough grip to avoid skidding even under hard braking.

TVS NTorq 125 Console
The fully-digital, Bluetooth enabled SmartConnect instrument panel has features which even some bikes cannot boast of

Look And Design: The NTorq has a design that everyone is bound to like. The scooter has been aimed at the youth and the sharp body panels with those eye-catchy colour options help it do exactly that. The 12-inch alloy wheels are the best that we have seen on a scooter. The 3D NTorq logo and the T-shaped LED taillight complete the cool looking design of the scooter.

Handling: The handlebar along with those sticky tyres help the NTorq hold its line really well. The feedback too is good and not dud like on some other scooters.

Cons:

TVS NTORQ 125 Specifications
TVS has unfortunately not given the NTorq 125 an LED headlight

Performance: Even though the 125cc, 3-valve engine has a good mid-range, it is not as peppy in the low-end which can become a problem in traffic conditions. It also loses breath beyond the mid-range resulting in a poor top-end.

Weight: At 116 kgs the NTorq happens to be the heaviest in the segment. While the weight does help in straight line stability, it is not as flickable as other scooters in the market. The added weight also brings down the mileage slightly.

TVS NTORQ Review Test Ride
The TVS NTorq 125 looks youthful

Underseat Storage: Even at 22-litres, which is on par with other scooters, the underseat compartment cannot fit a full-size helmet because of the way it is designed.

LED Headlight Missing: While TVS has done well in loading the NTorq with an advanced instrument cluster and a kill switch, it still misses out on an LED headlight even though it gets an LED taillight. What’s even more disappointing is that the illumination from the halogen headlight is not that great.

TVS Motor Company has unveiled the NTORQ SXR scooter which will be performing at the Indian National Rally Championship in Nashik. Based on the NTORQ 125 performance scooter, the NTORQ SXR will make its entry into the race arena for the fourth round of Indian National Rally Championship 2018 to be held in Nashik on 25th and 26th May.

Three time National Championship winner Asif Ali and Shamim Khan will be riding the new NTORQ SXR in the rally. TVS NTORQ SXR will be a successor to the SXR 160 and the homegrown automaker is looking to build on the success of the SXR 160.

The NTORQ SXR is powered by a 4-stroke single-cylinder air-cooled engine that produces 20+ HP of power and claims of reaching a top speed of 120 km/hr. The stock NTORQ 125, in comparison, produces 9.3 HP of power and is capable of reaching a top speed of 95 km/hr. TVS NTORQ 125 Review

Bike Tested: TVS NTORQ 125; Road Test No. 906; Test Location: TVS Test Track, Hosur

Price OTR Mumbai: Rs. 69,833/-

The TVS NTORQ differentiates itself by bringing youth appeal to the segment

TVS has been bringing a lot of firsts for them as well as the Indian market. From the introduction of the Apache RR 310 and now the NTORQ 125, TVS has proved itself by bringing little but noteworthy innovations. A first 125cc scooter by the company, backed by the inspiration of TVS Racing is a complete sporty scooter set to please the young and energetic India. This is the first stint with the scooter on the Hosur track and it’s pretty interesting.

Motor Quest: A first from the company, the TVS NTORQ is a power-scooter with an all-new 3-valve 125cc mill. It was launched right before the 2018 Auto Expo. Also, the first scooter ever in the Indian market to get Bluetooth technology integrated within the console to display various information on the fully digital cluster. Also, the first scooter to ever get an engine kill switch in India.

The overall front looks a lot similar to the current scooters in the market

Styling – The design is likely to be a hit with some and miss with some. The scooter gets a halogen headlamp with a Batwing-styled LED DRL (but in some angles looks like a Chevrolet logo) and the dual-tone colour scheme will immediately grab eyeballs on the streets. Some might argue that the side panels resemble the Yamaha Ray ZR but there is no denying that the cuts and creases make the NTORQ 125 look sporty. The headlamp is located on the apron while the turn indicators are housed on the handlebar. There are full-aluminium footpegs on the sides and TVS deserves a mention here for the level of attention to detail. The engine cooling fan housed near the stubby exhaust is finished in red which simply made us go wow.

The complete bodywork is very edgy from the front to the tail

The matte finish feels more plastic but the overall design is very sporty

The LED tail-light with the jet engine-like exhausts (rear vents) on either side make the rear look distinctive. The performance scooter rides on diamond-cut 12-inch alloy wheels wrapped in a 100-section tyre for the front wheel and a 110-section rubber for the rear which by the way, give it a good stance. There is a unique 3D NTORQ logo on either side and the split grab rails plus the red stitching on the seat and the handlebar weights add to the scooter’s sporty appeal. The NTORQ 125 is available in a choice of four colours – Matte Green, Yellow, Red and White.

First-in-class digital instrument cluster is the most loaded

Instrument Cluster and Switchgear – The instrument cluster is a fully digital unit and unlike what we’ve seen in any other scooter, this unit is Bluetooth enabled. Accessible via Smart-Connect, the TVS NTORQ app (available only on the Android platform), this console shows a ton of information like engine oil temperature, time, fuel-level indicator, top speed, average speed, low battery indicator, service reminder, incoming call alert, incoming SMS alert, Last Parked Location Assist and finally Navigation Assist. The switchgear feels solid, chunky and is of high quality and guess what, TVS is even offering an engine kill switch which is a first for any scooter in India!

The 125cc scooter segment has gotten more crowded with the entry of the TVS NTORQ 125 and the Aprilia SR 125.

2018 Aprilia SR 125 4
The SR 125 retains all the design cues from the SR 150 except for the split grab rail

The last time we pit the Honda Grazia 125 against the Suzuki Access 125, it was the latter that emerged as the winner of that comparison, however, now there are two more rivals that the best in the segment has to deal with. Just over 3 months of the Honda Grazia’s launch in India, TVS and Aprilia have entered the 125cc scooter segment with the NTORQ 125 and SR 125 respectively. So, how do the two new kids on the block fare against their competition? Read on to find out.

Design and Looks – Of the four, the TVS NTORQ 125 and the Honda Grazia 125 look traditional (read similar) while the Aprilia SR 125 and the Suzuki Access 125 look distinctive and different. The Aprilia is a sportier (race) scooter with bike-like styling elements while the Suzuki is a retro-inspired machine. The clean design, chrome elements and tall stance highlight the practical and functional aspects of the Access 125 while the Grazia 125 is sharper and modern looking thanks to the creases and various design elements.

Looks are subjective. The two newbies in this comparison are performance-focused scooters while the other two are your regular scooters. Among all the four, it would be tough to pick a winner, so, between the NTORQ 125 and SR 125, our pick would be the latter and if we had to choose between the Access 125 and Grazia 125, hands down we would choose the Grazia 125.

Dimensions – In terms of sheer dimensions, the SR 125 is the longest, widest and tallest scooter in this comparison. But just being longest, widest and tallest isn’t enough. At 1346 mm of wheelbase the SR 125 is the toughest scooter to maneuver around the city roads. The NTORQ 125, Grazia 125 and the Access 125 get a wheelbase of 1285 mm, 1260 mm and 1265 mm respectively. The Grazia not only has a shorter wheelbase but it also has the lowest seat height of 766 mm, thereby making it accessible for shorter riders as well. That said, when it comes to comfort, the large footboard and the flat seat on the Access 125 makes it a more comfortable choice.

Features – This is where the battle gets fierce but we should give it to the NTORQ 125 here. In addition to the front disc brake (standard on the Aprilia and optional in the Suzuki and Honda), alloy wheels (standard on the Aprilia and optional in the Suzuki and Honda), USB charging socket (optional DC socket offered on the Suzuki), telescopic front forks, fully digital instrument console (digital-analogue offered on the Suzuki and only an analogue in the Aprilia) and split grab rails (Aprilia and Suzuki get a single-piece grab rail), the NTORQ 125 also offers a pass-by switch, engine kill switch, petal disc brake, riding modes and a Bluetooth enabled instrument console that shows information like engine temperature, lap timer, top speed, average speed, incoming call alert, incoming SMS alert, Last Parked Location Assist and Navigation Assist.

Though Grazia’s full LED headlamp and instrument console with tachometer (only scooter to get it in this comparison) deserve a mention here, it is the TVS NTORQ 125 that takes the cake in the features department.

Powertrain – The NTORQ 125 draws power from a 124.79cc motor that puts out 9.3 HP of power and 10.5 Nm of torque while the Aprilia SR 125 comes powered by a 125cc mill which produces 9.5 HP of power and 9.9 Nm of torque. The Suzuki Access 125 is powered by a 124cc engine which puts out 8.58 HP and 10.2 Nm and on the other hand, the Grazia’s 124.9cc mill is shared with the Activa 125 and produces 8.52 HP of power with 10.54 Nm of torque. As obvious, Aprilia SR 125 has a slight upper hand in peak power figures while the NTORQ 125 outputs a higher peak torque. The higher peak power of the NTORQ, though, is delivered at a slightly higher RPM. What helps Suzuki’s case is its 102 kg kerb weight which is 5 kgs lesser than the Honda’s, 14 kgs lesser than the TVS’s and a whole 20 kgs lesser than the Aprilia’s. This makes it more agile and gives it zippy performance off the line. However, the Aprilia SR 125 also gets a very slight advantage in tank range with its 6.5-litre fuel tank.

Verdict – No matter what features a scooter offers and no matter how powerful an engine it has, it all boils down to the price and we’ll not beat around the bush and let’s get straight to the matter. At Rs. 57,850/-, the TVS NTORQ 125 is the most value for money scooter in the 125cc segment and undercuts the Suzuki by a slight margin and the Honda and Aprilia by a huge margin. Clearly then, the NTORQ 125 is the jack of all trades here offering sporty performance yet being a practical scooter. That said, if price isn’t a constraint and motorcycle-like riding and handling characteristics are what you seek, look no further than the Aprilia and in case you don’t find the NTORQ 125 to your liking, the Suzuki Access 125 is the scooter you should be putting your money on.
