2022 Mercedes-Benz C-Class launch to take place on 10th May, prices likely to start from Rs. 50 lakhs

Mercedes-Benz is set to launch its limousine, the C-Class, on 10th May with booking already underway for a token amount of Rs. 50,000/-. The luxury sedan will be offered in 3 variants – C200, C220d, and C300d. Unveiled last year, C-Class is currently in its fifth generation.

Designed taking inspiration from the S-Class, the new C-Class is 65 mm longer than its previous version. It sports a revised grille, sleeker LED headlamps with integrated LED drls, and new split LED tail-lamps. It runs on 19-inch alloy wheels and the blackened B-pillars complete the look on the side.

On the inside, along with more space, there is new age technology throughout including the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and the 11.9-inch infotainment touchscreen taken straight from the S-Class.

The seats are made of Nappa leather

The touchscreen infotainment system features ‘Hey Mercedes’ connected car technology while other features include sunroof, wireless charging, heated steering wheel, and Nappa leather upholstery.

The luxury sedan is likely to sport both petrol and diesel engine options including a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol unit good for 167 HP and 250 Nm while a 9-speed automatic gearbox will be the sole transmission on offer.

The car is also likely to feature integrated starter-generator (ISG) as well, although the exact details of the powertrains which will be offered here is unknown.

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz C-Class is expected to be launched at a starting price of Rs. 50.01 lakhs (ex-showroom). Once launched, it will rival the competitors – Audi A4, Volvo S60, BMW 3 Series, and Jaguar XE.

2022 Mercedes C-Class Bookings
Mercedes-Benz has sold about 37,000 units of the C-Class in India

Initially, bookings for the 2022 Mercedes C-Class can only be made by the brand’s existing customers

Mercedes has announced the commencement of bookings for the 2022 C-Class in India starting today. The luxury sedan will be introduced to the market on 10th May.

Interestingly, the German marque says between 13th and 30th April, only its existing customers can book the BMW 3-Series rival, while others can book the car from 1st May.

The 2022 Mercedes C-Class bookings are open for the C200 and C300d variants, while the bookings for the C220d variant will begin later although all 3 grades will be available at launch.

Mercedes has set the token amount to book the new generation C-Class (code-named W206) at Rs. 50,000/-. Remember, the car is going to set foot on Indian soil more than a year after its global unveil took place.

The fifth-generation C-Class, comes with all-new design inside and out and with tonnes of new age features and safety tech, with many borrowed directly from the S-Class.

The cabin of the car will be rich in tech

For example, the car has a 12.3-inch digital cluster, a 11.9-inch touchscreen for the MBUX infotainment system, among several other features on the inside and top-notch LED lights on the exterior.

When it comes to the powertrain, the C200 has a 1.5-litre petrol motor making 201 HP and 300 Nm. The C220d uses a 2.0-litre motor delivering 197 HP and 440 Nm.

Finally, the C300d uses the same oil burner but with higher outputs of 261 HP and 550 Nm. All the engines have an integrated starter-generator (ISG) and come teamed to a 9-speed automatic gearbox.

More details about the India-spec models of the luxury sedan should arrive in the coming weeks and the arrival of the baby S-Class could shake things up in the luxury sedan market.

2022 Mercedes C-Class
The car has been on sale in Europe for quite some time now

The market launch of the 2022 Mercedes C-Class is not far away

German luxury car brand Mercedes is likely to launch the new C-Class in May 2022 in India. The fifth-generation (W206) C-Class was globally revealed about a year ago.

MD and CEO of Mercedes-Benz India, Martin Schwenk, expects the new generation C-Class to follow its predecessor’s footsteps and “further drive up volumes”.

With an exterior styling influenced by the new generation S-Class, the 2022 C-Class is 65 mm longer than the outgoing model that is all but out of stock now.

On the inside, along with more space, there is new age technology throughout, including the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and the 11.9-inch infotainment touchscreen, taken straight from the big daddy S-Class.

Mercedes has nailed the cabin design of the new C-Class

Both petrol and diesel engines should be on offer in India and all will come with an integrated starter-generator (ISG), although the exact details of the powertrains which will be offered here is unknown.

Mercedes could launch the 2022 C-Class in C200 and C200d forms. The former comes with a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol unit good for 167 HP and 250 Nm, while the oil burner will deliver 197 HP and 440 torques. A 9-speed automatic gearbox will be the sole transmission on offer.

Before the 2022 Mercedes C-Class launch takes place in May however, the German car manufacturer is expected to introduce the Maybach S580 in the country this March. It will be assembled at the firm’s factory in Chakan, Maharashtra.

2022 Mercedes C-Class Reveal
Looks sleek and pleasing does the new C-Class

The reveal of the new-generation 2022 C-Class shows the importance Mercedes gives to the model in a world that is increasingly moving toward SUVs and also how significant a role the crown jewel of its lineup plays in defining its entire range of cars.

That is because, the exterior design instantly reminds one of the S-Class. The model comes with LED headlights, a neat grille with the Mercedes logo in the centre and a rather wide air dam.

A character line flows from the front fender to the tail lights that are 2-piece units, a first for the C-Class. The wheel sizes range from 17 to 19 inches and at the rear, there are twin exhaust outlets and a large bumper.

As an optional extra, the 2022 C-Class can be had with the Digital Light system that projects guidelines and warning symbols onto the road up ahead.

While the exterior might not seem very special, the interior of the luxury sedan more than makes up for it.

Inspired by the cabin of the new S-Class, the C-Class’ dash houses 2 screens, a 12.3-inch digital cluster and a 11.9-inch touchscreen for the MBUX infotainment system pinched from the S-Class. Lesser trim levels get slightly smaller displays.

There is a new steering wheel (2 styles), new air vents and seats inside the car that now has increased interior space be it headroom, elbow room, shoulder room or legroom.

That is due to it being 65 mm longer, 10 mm wider and having a 25 mm longer wheelbase than the model it replaces. It also has a lowered roofline.

Boot space stands at 455 litres for the European model (507 litres for the US version) and there is also an estate available right from the get-go for those who want more practicality.

If there was a surprise that the 2022 Mercedes C-Class reveal disclosed, it was that all the engines of the car are complimented by an integrated starter-generator (ISG) that provides temporary power boost.

The European C-Class range starts with the C180 which has a 1.5-litre petrol motor making 167 HP and 250 Nm of torque. Then comes the C200/C200 4Matic models with the same engine, but with 201 HP and 300 Nm of torque.

Diesel models start with the C200d (161 HP and 380 Nm) and include C220d/C220d 4MATIC (197 HP and 440 Nm), and end with the top-spec C300d (261 HP and 550 Nm).

In addition, Mercedes also has a PHEV model called C300e that has 308 HP and 550 Nm from its 2.0-litre petrol engine and electric motor combo. This particular model has a 25.4-kWh battery pack that enables it to travel 100 km on electric power alone.

All the models come paired to a 9-speed automatic gearbox and as an optional extra, the luxury sedan can be specced with rear-wheel steering as well. Of the lot, expect the C200 and C220d models to come to India.

Available for sale in Europe from March, the C-Class family will further grow with the arrival of high-performance models, but they too will be 4-cylinder petrol hybrids.

Interior
Well, the interior of the car is clearly the best in its class
Side Profile
It is longer and wider than the outgoing model
Rear Profile
US-spec models have more boot space than European models
2022 Mercedes C-Class
More than 10.5 million units of the C-Class has been sold so far worldwide
Sedan And Estate
There is an estate version available as well

2022 Mercedes C-Class AMG Line Steering Wheel
The non-AMG models will come with 2 new steering wheel designs

The interior of the soon-to-be unveiled 2022 Mercedes C-Class has been spied and we are glad to report that it has a lot of the new S-Class’ parts.

At the centre of the new dashboard is the 12.8-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system borrowed from the S-Class. The 2022 C-Class will come with the same MBUX system as the S-Class.

Thus, the touchscreen can be used to access navigation, the car’s entertainment system and also houses the climate controls. The screen, which sits below the central air vents, even makes use of a fingerprint scanner, like a mobile phone.

A new digital instrument cluster, also taken from the top Mercedes luxury sedan will also be provided on the new C-Class. It, however, is not a 3D-enabled cluster. The head up display is also new and will be double the size of the older one.

Also new is the steering wheel. While the model spied was an AMG Line variant having the “supersports” flat-bottomed steering wheel with new controls, standard variants will feature a “sports” steering wheel which will be different.

In addition, the 2022 Mercedes C-Class interior will also have new seats and rear passengers will have more legroom, for the new model has a 25 mm longer wheelbase than the outgoing car.

Overall length, on the other hand, has been increased by 70 mm on the car that will also come equipped with a sunroof and ambient lighting.

On the outside, the AMG Line mule sports the “Night” pack, has power bulges on the bonnet, new LED headlights, a strong shoulder line, new LED tail lights with sweeping signature and a small boot lid spoiler.

All of the powertrains offered with the luxury sedan will feature mild-hybrid system that provides power and torque boost, while a plug-in hybrid petrol (315 HP and 650 Nm) with 100 km electric range will also be on sale. Rear-axle steering will be there too.

Set to be unveiled on 23rd February, the new 2022 Mercedes C-Class looks set to give the BMW 3-Series some rough nights after it gets launched.

Car Tested: Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe; Road Test No. 1275; Test Location: Mumbai

Price OTR Mumbai: Rs. 1,57,99,044/-

Thrilling performance and exceptional ride & handling balance make the C63 Coupe a very dramatic car to drive

Sometimes I get quite livid on Mercedes. Their AMG models are so good, especially the 63 ones, that it becomes really difficult to get back to driving any other car after bidding goodbye to these V8-powered, full of character sports cars. One such car is the Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe which we got around to driving only recently. This car brought back some really nice memories that I had with the C63 S sedan while going flat out on the ghats and the expressway back in 2016. But how different is the C63 in its coupe form? Well, all I can say is it has swept me off my feet.

Mercedes-AMG-C63-Coupe-11
The 2-door design combined with the matte paint job looks absolutely breathtaking

Exteriors – I am a big fan of sleeper cars and while the C63 S sedan was a great sleeper (it looked like a regular C sedan to a layman but could wake up the dead with its performance), the C63 coupe gets a 2-door body and our test car which was beautifully specced in Graphite Grey Magno with 19-inch cross-spoke forged AMG wheels certainly didn’t look like a sleeper; In fact, it screamed of character.

Mercedes-AMG-C63-Coupe-12
One can opt for sportier wheels and the AMG Aerodynamics package to get the spoiler lip

The C63 Coupe might look like a sleeper in standard colours, but in this spec it looks absolutely like a ninja on the move

The matte body colour comes at an additional Rs. 2.38 lakh while these wheels will set you back by Rs. 5.23 lakh. The test car was also loaded with the AMG Aerodynamics package (front splitter, diffuser and spoiler lip) which is priced at Rs. 3.47 lakh. Yes, there’s a plethora of options available with the C63 and you can check all of them out at the configurator on Mercedes’ website.

Mercedes-AMG-C63-Coupe-9
The sloping roofline and the long hood give the C63 a lot of personality and attitude

The Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe is brilliantly proportioned and has a very wide stance. It draws eyeballs and Mercedes designers have nailed the coupe bodyline perfectly. Housing a V8, the bonnet is quite long and then the rear section merges smoothly with the cabin of the car. 18-inch wheels are standard while 19s and 20s are optional. The vehicle gets multi-beam LED headlamps with cornering function and in between sits proudly the Panamericana grille of the car since this is based on the facelifted W205. Overall, the C63 Coupe has a deadly combination of looks and road presence.

Mercedes-AMG-C63-Coupe-32
The C63’s cabin cocoons you with its high-quality materials and excellent fit and finish

Interiors – The cabin design and the layout of the controls felt very familiar in the C63 Coupe. In typical Mercedes fashion, all the components and materials are rich in quality. The vehicle gets AMG Performance seats which have a memory function and there’s also a 4-way adjustable lumbar support on offer. You also get an AMG steering wheel which is wrapped in Nappa leather and it gets silver inserts around the buttons.

Mercedes-AMG-C63-Coupe-41
Other features include a fully digital instrument cluster and a Burmester sound system

The C63 comes with numerous customisation options driving up the prices by lakhs in no time

Some other noteworthy features include a fully digital instrument cluster, dual-zone automatic climate control, keyless-go, Burmester sound system, etc. All the displays have a very crisp resolution and the Burmester system sounds beautiful but would you really want to listen to music when you have the V8 playing its lovely track? Features like wireless charging, air balance package and climatised seats are offered as optional extras.

Mercedes-AMG-C63-Coupe-40
One can also choose the trim in and around the dashboard as per their desire

Mercedes offers a number of customisation options for the upholstery and trims and our test car had grey and black upholstery with yellow inlays. A gloss lime wood trim is standard on the centre console while you can opt for other trims like anthracite open-pore oak wood (Rs. 18,000/-), open-pore walnut wood (Rs. 29,000/-) and even a carbon fibre trim (Rs. 1.21 lakh) that was present on our car.

Mercedes-AMG-C63-Coupe-47
The front seats offer fantastic support and also get electric adjustment with memory function

Outstanding build quality with great attention to detail and bespoke materials give you a sense of opulence

The front seats are shaped so well that you just don’t feel like getting out after sitting on them. The seats hug you from the sides and there’s electric adjustment so that you find the perfect seating position before unleashing all those horses. The seat belts are held back by a locking mechanism which automatically slides forward when you get in the car. Just like every other Mercedes, the adjustment buttons for the front seats are placed on the doors but you can also pull a lever up from behind the seat and slide it forward and this is useful for rear passengers.

Mercedes-AMG-C63-Coupe-37
Rear seats are shaped well but the ingress is a bit tight and so is the headroom

While the front seat does slide ahead, getting into the rear is tight. The rear seat is placed low and there’s limited room. Rest assured, the seat is very comfortable and well-shaped but overall space levels are limited and headroom isn’t great either. You get some storage spaces in the door pads and a couple of them in the centre console while the boot offers very limited cargo capacity, with most of the space being gobbled up by the spare wheel which is latched onto the boot floor.

Mercedes-AMG-C63-Coupe-4
V8 motor offers stupendous amount of thrust pinning you to your seat every time you launch

Performance – Finally, let’s talk about what lends so much character to the Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe. Yes, I’m talking about the 4.0-litre V8 Bi-Turbo petrol engine that develops a tremendous 476 HP from 5500-6250 RPM along with a colossal 650 Nm of torque from 1750 RPM. The engine is responsive from the word GO and it actually makes the car feel like a rocket ready to be launched, such is the kind of acceleration that it offers. Use DYNAMIC SELECT to switch through the different driving modes like Eco, Comfort, Sport and Sport+ to experience how each one of them alters the engine, transmission, steering and suspension response. Now one thing to note here is that the C63 is a rear-wheel-drive model, unlike the C43 which gets 4MATIC. Also, the C63S gets an additional Race mode too along with dynamic engine mounts.

Mercedes-AMG-C63-Coupe-5
Taking just 4 seconds to reach the ton, this AMG can defy any speed limit even before you realise

The exhaust not only sounds like a symphony as you near the redline with pops and crackles but also sounds grunty at idle

When you start the car, the V8 settles with a nice burble and while it responds in a very sharp manner to even mild throttle inputs, you get the hang of it after driving for a while and you know when to go easy on the gas. I familiarised myself with the car, found the closest empty & smooth stretch of tarmac, felt grateful for ending 2020 in the driver’s seat of the C63 and went pedal to the metal. The V8 came alive, sang all the way to 7000 RPM accelerated towards the end of the year and before I knew it, the car was doing speeds much higher than what I thought it was doing. 0-100 km/hr comes up in a claimed 4 seconds while 0-200 km/hr is extremely quick too.

Mercedes-AMG-C63-Coupe-6
9-speed gearbox never misses a beat and also gets paddle shifters

The V8 just screams at high RPMs and the whole experience of meteoric acceleration, the loud symphony of the engine and the stiff suspension holding the car and making every small bump or undulation felt in the cabin is just surreal and something that has to be experienced because words aren’t enough to describe it. Of course, all this power comes at the cost of fuel economy which hovers between 3-6 km/l. The 9G-TRONIC gearbox is lightning quick with its shifts and works great irrespective of how you’re driving. Another cool feature is AMG Track Pace which shows a lot of telemetric data like acceleration times, lap times, etc. so that you can study these timings and see where’s the scope of improvement.

Mercedes-AMG-C63-Coupe-1
The superb ride and handling balance comes at the cost of super stiff ride quality

Driving Dynamics – There is no concept of body roll in the Mercedes C63 because the body feels so stable and it just doesn’t move around. The ultra-stiff AMG Ride Control suspension holds the car really well but it also ensures that every bump is felt inside the cabin, more so in Sport+ mode where the suspension travels seems to be almost negligible. The vehicle gets adaptive dampers and an electronically controlled LSD. The C63 gets extremely low profile tyres so you have to be super-duper careful on poor roads. The ride quality is very stiff and harsh, typical of almost any sports car.

Mercedes-AMG-C63-Coupe-2
Feedback-rich steering with adaptive dampers leads to great handling with pinpoint accuracy

The C63 has virtually no body roll thanks to an extremely stiff suspension setup and very low profile tyres

The vehicle is a beautiful handler and the steering weighs up impressively well at high speeds. It is extremely precise and the brilliant chassis ensures you have oodles of fun behind the wheel. Body control is just fab and this car gets front & rear anti-roll bars while the rear track has been widened by 50 mm. The C63 actually feels sharper to drive than the E63 because of its smaller size.

Mercedes-AMG-C63-Coupe-3
Even with traction control on, the C63 loves to slide its tail out occasionally

The C63 coupe is actually heavier than the C63 sedan because this has a wider track, heavier doors and some more strengthening which has been done to make this a better handler. It is extremely easy to slide the tail out on this one and the traction control does allow you to have some sideways fun before kicking in. AMG Dynamics makes changes to the differential and torque vectoring. However, this car doesn’t get AMG’s 9-step traction control which is offered on the C63S. The car gets cross-drilled, carbon ceramic ventilated disc brakes which lend massive stopping power.

Mercedes-AMG-C63-Coupe-8
The C63 comes loaded with all the latest safety tech along with Mercedes’ great service network

Safety And After Sales Service – Apart from multiple airbags including one for the driver’s knee, the Mercedes C63 gets safety tech like Adaptive High Beam Assist Plus, Adaptive Brake Lights, Active Park Assistant with PARKTRONIC and Mercedes’ PRE-SAFE system. Some autonomous functions like Blind Spot Assist, Lane Change Assist and Forward Collision System are optional extras. Mercedes has good presence across various cities in India so servicing your AMG shouldn’t be a problem. The German automaker also offers Star Ease Compact maintenance packages offering different plans for scheduled maintenance and wear & tear items.

Mercedes-AMG-C63-Coupe-23
Driving the C63 is like an addiction you can’t get rid off because of how much fun it offers

Verdict – The Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe costs almost Rs. 1.60 crore (on-road, Mumbai) and the cost will go up if you go for any extra options. For this price, you get a sports car that is full of character and oozes of a proper muscle car feel. The C63 will never let you get bored, in fact, it’ll always leave you entertained behind the wheel. This car is just too addictive. Addictive in terms of acceleration, addictive in terms of that lusty exhaust note and addictive in terms of the radiant handling that it offers. There are so many things to like about this car that you somehow ignore its shortcomings, which are anyway few and far. Yes, if you spend Rs. 20 lakh more, you get the Mercedes E63 S and BMW M5 and these are more powerful and more practical but if you don’t really need a proper saloon, the C63 Coupe makes the cut.

Mercedes-AMG-C63-Coupe-30
The spare tyre robs away most of the usable boot space

What’s Cool

  • Muscular design with superb road presence
  • Well built cabin with tons of features
  • Remarkably punchy engine with crazy exhaust note
  • Phenomenal ride and handling balance

What’s Not So Cool

  • Rear seat lacks space
  • Low ground clearance
  • Stiff ride quality

Alternatives – BMW M4, Audi RS5

2022 Mercedes C-Class Spied
The car seems to have been pictured at a factory, but can’t be said for sure

The 2022 Mercedes C-Class has been spied undisguised, well almost, and while the image is as grainy as it gets, it does showcase the design of the upcoming premium sedan.

It is the front end of the car that is undisguised and it follows the design language seen on the facelifted E-Class which was revealed back in March.

Thus, the headlights have gotten slimmer, the radiator grille is oval in shape, while the lower part has a slightly tweaked design to that seen on the sedan that sits above the Mercedes C-Class.

Also seen are bulges on the bonnet that is curved, while the rear-view mirrors are new. We will have to wait for spy shots of the rear of the car and we might not have to wait too long for that.

Previously, the car’s interior was also spotted, with the 2022 Mercedes C-Class borrowing heavily from the newly unveiled S-Class saloon. The steering wheel, AC vents, digital instrument cluster, infotainment are all new and the latter two are expected to borrow S-Class’ gizmos as well.

Expected to be launched sometime next year, the C-Class will likely make life tough for the BMW 3-Series and the upcoming Audi A4.

Prices have gone up by Rs. 1 lakh for the C300d AMG Line and Rs. 2.25 lakhs for the C220d.

Mercedes-C-Class Feature Updates
The Mercedes C220d and C300d AMG Line have received additional standard equipment

Being competitive in a very competitive segment is the key to either making or breaking a product. That’s exactly what Mercedes Benz India is doing with the C-Class that falls in the ring with three other players namely the BMW 3-Series, the Audi A4 and the Jaguar XE.

All four cars come with a unique proposition. But the main rivalry is between the German trio as the Jaguar XE is the least selling vehicle in this segment. Mercedes’ move with the C-Class appears to be a counter measure to the newly launched 3-Series by BMW. The update is reserved for the C 220d Progressive and the C 300d AMG Line variants.

The Mercedes C220d Progressive now gets a wireless phone charger at the centre console, a 9-speaker Midline sound system, a 12.3-inch fully digital instrument cluster and a memory function for the driver and front passenger seats. Priced at Rs. 46.50 lakhs (ex-showroom), this update costs Rs. 2.25 lakhs more than the preceding model.

In addition to the features offered in its sibling, the C300d AMG Line gets the ‘Night Package’ which adds gloss black inserts at the front and at the rear bumper along with some redesigned elements to make the car look sportier. This package also includes 5-spoke 18-inch AMG alloy wheels finished in black. Priced at Rs. 49.50 lakhs (ex-showroom), this update costs Rs. 1 lakh more than the preceding model.

Both these variants are powered by the same 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder BS6-compliant turbo-diesel engine coupled with Mercedes’ 9G-Tronic automatic gearbox with paddle shifters and a Sport mode. However, the engines in both the variants are tuned to produce different power and torque figures. The C220d makes 194 HP and 400 Nm of torque, whereas the C300d makes 245 HP and 500 Nm of torque.

The German automaker is supposed to bring the next generation of the C-Class to our shores in 2021. Till then, these feature updates are expected to keep the fierce competition in check.

2019 Mercedes C-Class

– The 2019 C-Class gets more features now
– Rivals the BMW 3-Series, Audi A4 and Jaguar XE
– Price bump is Rs. 2.25 lakhs and Rs. 1 lakh for the C220d and the C300d, respectively

2019 Mercedes-AMG C43 Coupe Review

Car Tested: 2019 Mercedes-AMG C43 Coupe; Road Test No. 1114; Test Location: Mumbai

Price OTR Mumbai: Rs. 94,18,281/-

The C43 is a drop dead gorgeous coupe with superb performance and dynamics

India is amongst the biggest emerging luxury car markets in the world. The trouble with that is, luxury cars have become too common. Gone are the days where you could impress your neighbours with a usual sedan or an SUV. Clearly, you need something more exclusive and something that stands out from the crowd. Mercedes-Benz has been listening and their answer is a sleek and sophisticated Coupe version of the C-Class. The AMG-spec C43 combines fast performance and soothing comfort in one stylish package. We are going to find out if Mercedes-Benz has the right move.

Motor Quest: Mercedes-Benz is the oldest and biggest premium car brand in India. The company has enjoyed steady success with its range of cars. In addition to usual sedans and SUVs, Mercedes-Benz has always had a presence in the niche part of the market. The SL, CLS, E-Cabrio are all the cars, the company has launched at some point in India. In the last few years, the company has introduced almost the whole range of their performance AMG brand. One of them is the new Mercedes-AMG C43. A coupe version of the facelifted C-Class which promises high performance without losing much on Mercedes’ core values like comfort.

From the side, the C43 looks absolutely charming and striking

Exteriors – The Mercedes-AMG C43 looks sophisticated and urbane. The design is sporty but not overly so. The update has given the C-Class range a more mature face and that is evident from the C43. The front is sharp but in a restrained way. The well-designed bumpers, big grille with a prominent three-pointed star and sharp headlights look pleasing. The wide bonnet gives the car the necessary stance and we love the sporty design of the alloy wheels. Certain elements like smoked headlamps, black wing mirrors, side skirts and notable AMG badges are subtle hints of the power underneath.

The C43 looks very posh with its stylish design

The long bonnet and the AMG kit give the C43 a sporty and elegant stance

The side profile is very curvy and from a distance, the C43 looks like a shrunken S-Class Coupe. But that is no bad thing. The C43 is long and that length makes the car look regal. The tail lamp design is very reminiscent to that of the bigger S-Coupe. We love the quad tailpipes and a nice spoiler on the boot lid. We are also big fans of this red shade we had on our car.

Mercedes C300d AMG Line Review

Car Tested: Mercedes C300d AMG Line; Road Test No. 1083; Test Location: Mumbai

Price OTR Mumbai: Rs. 57,97,893/-

The C300d is a perfect blend of performance, dynamics and luxury

India is one of the fastest growing car luxury car markets in the world. However, like the rest of the world, Indian luxury car buyers prefer premium compact SUVs. That said, the classic sedan silhouette still remains very popular. To count on that popularity, Mercedes-Benz has given the C-Class a shot of botox along with new engines and more equipment. Can this be enough to take on the current crop of cars in the segment and those coming in the near future like the BMW 3-series and Volvo S60? Stay tuned.

Motor Quest: The Mercedes Benz C-Class was introduced in India in its second generation avatar in 2002. Since then the car has proved to be the de-facto choice for many luxury buyers. Over the years the car has proved itself to be an extremely capable all-rounder. In its fourth generation, the C-Class is one of Mercedes’ best-selling cars and retains a strong fan following in India.

[flickr size=”center” float=”medium”]http://www.flickr.com/photos/motorbeam/47439395302/[/flickr]

The AMG Line gets revised bumpers and larger wheels

Exteriors – The Mercedes C300d is available with the sporty AMG Line treatment. You get what you expect like aggressive bumpers, side skirts and larger 18-inch wheels. The AMG Line also gives you higher spec ‘Multi-Beam’ LED headlights which look different than the other versions of the C-Class. Another great addition is the classy looking ‘diamond’ grille that is available with the C300d

[flickr size=”center” float=”medium”]http://www.flickr.com/photos/motorbeam/33615638518/[/flickr]

The C-Class has always looked classy and handsome

The AMG Line trim brings various cosmetic changes to the C-Class which makes it look sporty and swanky

The styling hasn’t changed by a huge margin and that is only a good thing. The C-Class always looked elegant and polished, just how a Mercedes ought to. The new C300d takes that theme forward while adding a touch of sportiness. On the side the character lines are prominent and this gunmetal colour gives the car enough bling value. The back is characterised by nicely designed bumpers with (fake) visible exhausts and the S-Class inspired ‘C’ shaped LED taillights. The front seems to be changed more than any other profile of the car and it gives the C300d a nice and confident stance.

[flickr size=”center” float=”medium”]http://www.flickr.com/photos/motorbeam/47439394852/[/flickr]

This gunmetal color gives the C300d a understated yet mean look

Like all AMGs or AMG inspired models, the design of the C300d looks wonderfully constrained. It does not look too plain nor does it shout power. As always Mercedes seems to have found the right balance between the two.
