BMW Motorrad has launched the BS6-compliant G 310 R with a price tag of Rs. 2.45 lakhs and G 310 GS at Rs. 2.85 lakhs (both prices ex-showroom) in India.

The two entry-level motorcycles from the German firm have received minor tweaks along with the updated engine this time around.

Both the naked and adventure-oriented bikes now get new LED headlamp with DRL, LED indicators, LED tail light, new colour schemes and body graphics.

Thus, the BS6 G 310 R price will get customers new paint schemes such as Cosmic Black, Polar White and for an additional Rs. 10,000/- “Style Sport” Limestone Metallic.

In the case of the BS6 G 310 GS however, three new paint schemes including Polar White and for an extra Rs. 6000/-, “Style Rallye” in Kyanit Blue Metallic and “40 Years Of GS” edition, that comes in Cosmic Black with yellow graphics, have been introduced.

In both bikes, the covers for the engine, clutch, alternator and water pump come in a new Titanium Grey colour finish. Also new are the 4-level adjustable brake and clutch levers.

What is not new though is the instrument console that remains the same LCD panel. But what is also new on the bikes is ride-by-wire tech or electronic throttle grip in BMW lingo.

Engine remains the same 313cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder unit that is more kinder to the environment, putting out 34 HP and 28 Nm. While the 6-speed gearbox remains the same, the self-boosting anti-hopping clutch is new. Top speed of the bike is rated at 143 km/hr.

One other thing BMW has concentrated on is finance schemes. The G 310 R can now be had with a low EMI payment of Rs. 4500/- and G 310 GS for Rs. 5500/-. The bikes come with 3 years/unlimited km warranty as standard and it can also be extended for two more years.

By reducing the prices of its entry-level motorcycles, BMW has given itself a better chance of gaining more sales this time. Let us hope the market grants BMW its wishes.

The BMW G 310 R BS6 has been spotted on test once again in India, thus hinting that the bike launch is near enough.

Earlier this month the BMW G 310 R and G 310 GS were spotted on test and like those test mules, this one did not have any camouflage either.

But one striking difference seen on the BMW G 310 R BS6 prototype is that the frame is red in colour.

Other visual differences begin with the head light which is now a full LED unit with LED DRLs placed horizontally. The set up and style looks similar to the BMW F 900 R’s headlamp unit and the indicators are new as well.

The petrol tank has a different design and the body panels seem to be new on the naked bike, giving it a more muscular look.

The BMW G 310 R BS6 will be powered by a 313cc singe-cylinder motor that will produce the same power figures as the BS4 engine. So, peak power will be 34 PS and peak torque will be 28 Nm.

BMW could throw in a quick shifter with the bike this time around to make it a more fun-to-ride bike, but it is not confirmed yet.

The BMW G 310 GS which was also spotted testing earlier this month, will sport its own changes such as a narrow beak and a different engine tune to better suit its category.

The 2021 BMW G 310 R and G 310 GS have been spotted testing in India, a couple of months after they were spotted on test abroad. The updated G 310 twins are expected to go on sale globally later this year.

BMW Motorrad has given the bikes LED headlamp, while the digital instrument console is expected to sport some changes. The petrol tank has a different design and the side panels seem to be new on the naked bike. The adventure tourer has a narrow beak when compared with the model on sale.

There are no other changes visible as the seat, wheels and exhaust look to be the same. The changes are similar to what was spotted earlier when the bikes were spotted testing abroad. BMW could add a quick shifter this time around but it is not confirmed yet.

The bikes will get an updated BS6 engine and is expected to produce 34 PS and 28 Nm of torque as earlier. Although, BMW might work on the power delivery to differentiate between the models as they serve different purposes.

The updated models are expected to be launched by August-end this year with a heavy cut in price, estimated to the tune of Rs. 75,000/-. We can expect new colour options and graphics with this update. The test mules you see here are devoid of any logos or graphics.

The BMW G 310 twins have been spotted on test abroad with minor tweaks. Both the updated bikes are expected to be launched in India by August this year.

The 2020 BMW G 310 R gets a new headlight design which looks sharper and gets an LED unit which replaces the halogen unit from the current model.

The 2020 BMW G 310 GS too gets a new LED headlight unit with revised styling and the beak is now narrower compared to the current model.

Apart from these minor cosmetic changes, there are no other styling updated on both the bikes. BMW Motorrad will update the engine to comply with the new BS6 emission norms.

The 312cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine produces 34 PS of power and 28 Nm of torque. It is mated to a 6-speed gearbox. The BS6 update might not see any changes in power output.

The updated models are expected to be launched in India by August end this year. BMW Motorrad is believed to be offering the new models with a heavy price cut of up to Rs. 75,000/-.

With the BS6 transition, the majority of automakers are increasing the pricing of their products. The companies are adding the cost of updating the engines and there are some products that have got a huge price increase.

However, BMW Motorrad is preparing to update the G 310 GS and G 310 R with a massive price cut. The German automaker is taking the opportunity of BS6 update to correct the pricing of the G 310 twins that were quite overpriced compared to other bikes belonging to their respective segment.

The BS6 update for the G 310 twins is expected to come by August-end or early-September this year. The bike may come with a heavy price cut of around Rs. 75,000/-.

If the bikes get such a huge reduction in price then the BMW G 310 R will have a price tag of Rs. 2.4 lakhs while the G 310 GS will be priced at Rs 2.90 lakhs (all prices, ex-showroom).

This move will get more volumes for the bike maker and some sleepless nights for the KTM Duke 390 and 390 Adventure.

We can expect similar tweaks as the TVS Apache RR 310 BS6 update. The 312cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine is likely to offer the same 34 PS of power and 28 Nm of torque. The 6-speed transmission might come with slipper clutch as standard with this update.

Inspired by the huge success of the Bajaj-KTM alliance, BMW Motorrad joined hands with TVS to manufacture budget-oriented BMW motorcycles to increase their global presence and to showcase a pocket-friendly motorcycle for all price ranges. The partnership with TVS proved to be quite fruitful as they developed a brand-new platform and powertrain on which the G 310 R and G 310 GS are built.

Despite the hurdles faced by this platform on the battery and starter motor faults leading to breakdowns, BMW was successful in avoiding a recall. But not everything was bread and butter for BMW, as this platform started to show faults in the braking department.

In November 2018, multiple complaints started to pour in from Britain where owners experienced locking of brakes, loss in performance, unpleasant noises and odour from the brakes. BMW conducted an investigation campaign which revealed that the brake calliper piston, was un-anodised and was prone to corrosion due to environmental conditions and the unique road treatment conditions leading to interference with the clearance between the bore diameter and the piston. When the potentially affected markets were analysed by the field monitoring program, Britain was declared a high-risk area and the rest under medium/low-risk areas.

The braking equipment in question, is manufactured by Brembo through it’s Indian subsidiary, ByBre which provides inexpensive braking equipment to small/mid-size motorcycles and scooters in Brazil, Russia, India, China and South East Asia.

In March 2019, BMW voluntarily issued a recall for the affected motorcycles in the UK following with a voluntary recall for affected motorcycles from North America in August 2019. The recall includes free replacements of the brake callipers on both front and rear wheels for the affected motorcycles. The company will contact the affected motorcycle owners to bring in their motorcycles to the nearest BMW Motorrad service centre. If the owners have paid to replace any braking equipment prior to recall, the company will provide a refund to them. BMW hasn’t provided any information on the recall for Indian market yet. BMW has also withheld the sales of the subjected vehicles until the brake issue is completely resolved.

Inspired from their big bikes, these pocket rockets do offer a lot of performance

The KTM Duke 390 was the first mad motorcycle India has experienced after a long time. There was a time when the Yamaha RD350’s and other similar bikes got the excitement running across youngsters. KTM got the Duke 200 and then the Duke 390 and youngsters of the current generation went berserk. Other manufacturers wanted a piece of this pie too and got into producing 300-400cc performance motorcycles. TVS-BMW collaboration happened just sometime back and the South India based automaker brought out the Apache RR 310. But then, BMW didn’t want to be left out and launched the G 310 R and the G 310 GS. So we got the G 310 R for a few days and we couldn’t let ourselves sit back with just a road test, here’s the shootout with the second generation KTM Duke 390.

Motor Quest: KTM launched the Duke 390 in 2013 while it was updated back in 2017 and came with a new design, like the Super Duke. While BMW launched the G 310 R in India by the end of 2018. This motorcycle is the most affordable BMW in India as well as worldwide.

Styling – With the 2017 update, the KTM Duke 390 started looking more flashy and sharp with the white and orange graphics. It resembles a lot to the latest Super Duke available in the international markets. The BMW G 310 R looks muscular and bulky when compared to the Duke. While it takes all the inspiration for the BMW S 1000 R. It has got a beefy tank, golden forks and bikini fairing panel which covers the radiator. However, when both these motorcycles stand next to each other, the Duke look aggressive and tall while the G 310 R looks subtle and mature. The Duke gets LEDs all over while the BMW gets LEDs only in the tail-light.

Both the motorcycles are sure head-turners, while the sight of the KTM is common, the BMW is a rare spot

Both the motorcycles get an exposed chassis but the one on the Duke gets powder coated colours, making it more visible. The G 310 R does duty with 5-spoke alloys while the Duke gets 10-spoke orange coloured alloys. The KTM does duty with a split-seat to make it look sportier while the BMW gets a single piece seat but it’s a step-up unit for the pillion. Overall, the Duke is taller, longer and wider and it has a little more road presence than the G 310 R. But the BMW logo does grab tons of attention on the road. Both the motorcycle get unique grab-rails too.

Instrument Cluster and Switchgear – The instrument cluster on the KTM Duke 390 has always been a complete digital unit. But after the 2017 update, the cluster has become bigger with a colourful TFT screen, it does look premium. The console provides tons of information and the rider can customise the details which need to be displayed. The customisable text which comes on the left side of the screen has a small size. In comparison, the tachometer with integrated speedometer is huge and bright and covers the other half of the screen. It does look really awesome as the colour changes when the revs go higher.

The instrument cluster on the BMW G 310 R is also a digital unit but it feels basic when compared to the one on the Duke 390. However, it displays a ton of information too, like the engine temperature, distance to empty, live and actual mileage indicator along with all the basic information. The unit is smaller in size as compared to the one on the Duke but has better visibility in bright daylight. The switchgear quality on the BMW is very good and the fit and finish levels are pretty awesome. Although the KTM gets backlit switches and a toggle switch on the left, the quality isn’t as good as the BMW.

The long-term strategic partnership between TVS Motor Company and BMW Motorrad has achieved yet another milestone after the 50,000th BMW G 310 R was rolled out from Hosur plant of TVS. The 50,000th motorcycle rolled out in the presence of Dr. Markus Schramm, Head of BMW Motorrad and Mr. KN Radhakrishnan, Director and CEO, TVS Motor Company.

The collaboration between TVS and BMW is to oversee manufacturing of sub-500cc motorcycles. The partnership gave birth to a new 310cc platform. The BMW G 310 R, BMW G 310 GS and TVS Apache RR 310 are underpinned by the 310cc platform. Exports for the BMW 310 twins started back in December 2016. The BMW 310cc twins are exported to 90 countries, however, the BMW G 310 R and G 310 GS were launched in India earlier this year. Meanwhile, the TVS Apache RR 310 went on sale in 2017 here in India.

A 313cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine, mated to a 6-speed transmission powers the BMW 310cc twins. It produces 34 BHP of peak power and 28 Nm of peak torque while both the bikes get dual-channel ABS as standard.

BMW is offering benefits of up to Rs. 70,000/- as year-end cash discounts, free insurance, reduced rate of interest and more. The BMW G 310 R retails at Rs. 2.99 lakhs and the BMW G 310 GS at Rs. 3.49 lakhs (both prices ex-showroom, India).

BMW’s G 310 R and the G 310 GS, which is an adventure bike based on the former model, are now made available at dealerships with discounts of up to Rs. 70,000/-. These are offered in the form of cash discounts, free insurance and accessories and are different across all dealerships. Lower interest rate options are also being offered at some dealerships across North and West India.

With the discounts, the bikes will now cost around Rs. 3 lakhs and Rs. 3.7 lakhs (on-road). The bikes are BMW’s latest entries into the sub-500cc segment. They are manufactured in India by TVS, while the design and development of the two motorcycles happened in Munich, Germany. Both bikes are powered by the same reverse-inclined 313.2cc, liquid cooled, single-cylinder engine which can produce a power of 34 HP and 28 Nm torque. The engine is paired with a 6-speed transmission.

While both bikes share the same braking system (discs at the front and rear) and steel trellis chassis with separate sub-frame, the G 310 R is a naked tourer while the G 310 GS is a adventure tourer. The BMW G 310 R rests on 17-inch lightweight alloys that have road-biased Michelin tyres encasing them. The BMW G 310 GS however, to suit its adventure-oriented design comes with 19-inch and 17-inch wheels for the front and the rear respectively which run on Metzeler Tourance rubber.

Both bikes use the same inverted telescopic forks for front suspension while the rear suspension duties are left to the monoshock system in place.

After the launch of the BMW G 310 R and G 310 GS globally, the German manufacturer, BMW Motorrad is on the way to launch its supersport version in a form of BMW G 310 RR. The complete 310 series is being developed and manufactured in close association with TVS in India. After the successful launch of the TVS Apache RR 310, BMW Motorrad is also planning to launch the BMW G 310 RR.

The BMW G 310 RR was displayed at the BMW Motorrad, Japan. The fairings of the bike were completely made from carbon fibre. The huge G 310 RR sticker on the carbon looks very appealing. The gills pattern on the side fairing and other bodywork were inspired from the BMW S 1000 RR. The mechanical bits like suspension and wheels are expected to be shared with the Apache RR 310.

When launched it will go in competition with the Honda CBR 300R, Kawasaki Ninja 400, Yamaha R3 and KTM RC 390. This G 310 RR is ready for World Supersport 300 Championship. BMW Motorrad is expected to reveal the machine globally at INTERMOT show in October and at EICMA show, Milan. However, we expect the India launch to be around the same time.

The BMW G 310 R is a true roadster from its heart, feels very nimble and agile

A lot of people from different media houses had been taking efforts to ride the BMW G 310 R somewhere in the world. As the sales of the G 310 R had started quite some time back outside India, some people from the Indian media flew to other countries just to take a ride. While everyone had so many positive comments about the G 310 R, TVS dropped a bomb with the Apache RR 310 and the statements were true as the underpinnings of the TVS Apache RR 310 were the same as the BMW G 310 R. I was itching to ride this Beamer and we had our first stint with the G 310 R and the G 310 GS in Gurugram last week.

Motor Quest: The BMW G 310 R, G 310 GS and the Apache RR 310 are the outcomes of a joint venture between BMW and TVS in India. The G 310 R is powered by the same 313cc engine but is very agile and similar to bigger BMW Motorrad roadsters. The BMW G 310 R not only serves an entry to the BMW Motorrad roadster line-up but also to the complete BMW Motorrad line-up as it’s the most affordable BMW motorcycle in India.

Styling – The BMW G 310 R looks very neat, there’s no extra bodywork around it. If we just consider the hanging parts, it’s the Apache RR 310 right there but the bodywork, halogen headlamp and a straight handlebar make it clear that this 310 is a street bike. The bike grabs more attention as it gets the funky tail-light and the BMW badge with the HP colour scheme on the limited amount of body it has. The golden upside-down forks look just as brilliant as they are clearly visible and don’t hide under a full fairing. The single piece seat looks functional and goes well with the design but a split-seat setup would have added more sport to this roadster.

Instrument Cluster and Switchgear – Just like the BMW G 310 GS, the same console does the job on the G 310 R. A complete digital unit provides all the information to the rider. From twin trip meters, average fuel consumption, engine temperature, range and even the date. At first, the console would look a little small but from the saddle, it is easily readable and yet pretty simple. The switchgear is shared with the Indian cousin, the Apache RR 310 and the fit and finish is really good.

Ergonomics – The BMW G 310 R has the same ergonomics as of the Apache RR 310 but as we have handlebars here, the seating posture is now upright while the footpegs are still slightly rear-set just like the Apache RR 310. The seat height is just 785 mm, making it the lowest of all the 310s. While the single piece seat is very well cushioned, the rider, as well as pillion comfort, is taken into consideration and the pillion sits very comfortably unlike on the Apache RR 310. The pillion also has decent grab rails to hold onto. Overall, the ergonomics are very comfortable for riders with height from 5 feet 4 inches to 6 feet 2 inches.
