Hyundai i20 variants discontinued include 2 Asta models, the company has also hiked the price of another variant

Hyundai India has silently discontinued a couple of variants of the C-segment hatchback, i20. This move comes in the backdrop of many discontinuations Hyundai has undertaken in the last 1 month.

In addition to pulling the plug on these select variants, the company has also hiked the price of another variant.

The discontinued variants of the i20 were Asta 1.2 IVT and Asta 1.0 Turbo DCT. While the former retailed at Rs. 9.95 lakhs, the latter had a price tag of Rs. 11.38 lakhs, all prices, ex-showroom.

With this, the total variant count for the hatchback has been decreased from 21 to 19 excluding the premium N Line model.

If you were planning to get the now discontinued Asta 1.2 IVT, you can now settle either with the Sportz 1.0 Turbo DCT for Rs. 9.81 lakhs or Asta 1.0 Turbo iMT for Rs. 10.05 lakhs, all prices, ex-showroom.

But, if you only want the naturally aspirated petrol mated to the IVT, you have shell out another Rs. 61,000/- and get the Asta Opt IVT for Rs. 10.56 lakhs (ex-showroom).

Likewise, if you were planning to get the Asta 1.0 Turbo DCT, you can now settle either with Asta Opt 1.0 Turbo DCT or Asta Opt 1.0 Turbo DCT DT. For the latter, you need to shell out Rs. 16,000/- more, which has been priced at Rs. 11.54 lakhs (ex-showroom).

In addition to discontinuing these 2 variants, Hyundai has hiked the price of the Asta (O) 1.2 IVT DT from Rs. 10.66 lakhs to Rs. 10.71 lakhs, all prices, ex-showroom. The variant is now dearer by Rs. 5000/-. These changes have been updated at the dealership level.

This isn’t the first time Hyundai has rejigged the i20’s variant lineup. During the start of March, the Korean manufacturer introduced the new variants – Asta (O) 1.2 IVT and Sportz 1.0 Turbo DCT.

The Hyundai i20 competes with the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Tata Altroz, Honda Jazz, and Toyota Glanza.

The 2022 Hyundai i20 will get new variants in the place of discontinued ones

Hyundai is getting ready to change certain variants of the 2022 i20 ahead of the Tata Altroz DCT’s launch, while some grades will also get a revised list of equipment.

The Korean automaker will discontinue the Asta 1.2-litre petrol CVT and 1.0-litre turbo DCT and instead will offer the Asta trim in only 2 forms – 1.2-litre petrol MT and 1.0-litre turbo iMT.

On the other hand, Hyundai will introduce the Asta (O) 1.2-litre petrol CVT and Sportz 1.0-litre turbo DCT variants for the 2022 model year i20.

That is not all. The Sportz variant will from now on come with automatic climate control and cruise control as standard. All Asta grades will get a sunroof, in addition to the existing features, while the Asta(O) trim will get additional voice commands for the BlueLink system.

However, the Asta models, while having gained a sunroof, will feature a smaller 8.0-inch touchscreen in the place of the 10.25-inch screen and will also not come with connected car features.

The 2022 Hyundai i20 will not be subjected to any mechanical changes. These above-mentioned revisions are being lined up in order for the premium hatchback to hold a candle to its rivals which include the refreshed 2022 Maruti Baleno and Tata Altroz.

The asking price of the Hyundai i20 N Line ranges between Rs. 9.84 lakhs and Rs. 11.75 lakhs (ex-showroom)

Hyundai Motor India has launched the i20 N Line with a starting price of Rs. 9.84 lakhs (ex-showroom and introductory), today, in India.

Available in N6 and N8 grades, the sportier variant of the premium hatchback comes with 4 monotone colour options – Fiery Red, Polar White, Thunder Blue (new and exclusive) and Titan Grey – and 2 dual tone – Fiery Red and Thunder Blue with Phantom Black roof – choices.

Externally, the i20 N Line comes with unique elements that help it mark its presence as a sportier model in the model range.

The car sports a chequered flag inspired front grille, 2-tone front bumper, chrome garnish for fog lamps, Athletic Red accents on the front skid plate and side skirts, Red calipers up front and 16-inch diamond cut alloy wheels with N logo.

Furthermore, Hyundai has also equipped the car with a boot lid spoiler, twin tip muffler, and the tail lights are connected with a dark chrome trim piece.

Inside, the i20 N Line comes with leatherette seats with chequered flag design and N logo, perforated leatherette gear knob with N logo, 3-spoke steering wheel with N logo, Athletic Red inserts and red ambient lights.

Hyundai says it has tuned the exhaust specifically for the i20 N line. It also claims to have tuned the steering setup for strong on-centre feel and suspension setup for a more agile ride and handling. The car also comes with disc brakes at all corners.

Customers can choose any of the ‘Wonder Warranty’ options – 5 years/40,000 km, 4 years/50,000 km or 3 years/1 lakh km – Hyundai offers with the car. They will also get free roadside assistance for 3 years and Bluelink subscription for the same number of years.

While bookings for the Hyundai i20 N Line are accepted now, the car will be launched only next month

Hyundai has revealed the i20 N Line in India and has begun accepting bookings for the new variant of its premium hatchback.

The booking amount has been set at Rs. 25,000/- and the i20 N Line, which will be offered in 2 variants – N6 and N8, will be launched in September.

This new top-spec model of the i20 range looks sportier than the regular model thanks to the cosmetic upgrades. It has a new radiator grille, tweaked side skirts and bumpers (the rear bumper houses a diffuser) and a twin-muffler exhaust.

The tail lamps are connected by a dark chrome trim, while Hyundai has also added a boot lid spoiler and equipped the car with new 16-inch alloy wheels apart from giving it red accents throughout.

Monotone colour choices that the Hyundai i20 N Line will come with are Fiery Red, Polar White, Thunder Blue (exclusive) and Titan Grey.

Among these, the Fiery Red and Thunder Blue shades can also be had in dual tone form, wherein the roof will be painted in Phantom Black colour.

Inside, the i20 N Line comes with black leatherette seats with red stitching and chequered flag detailing with the ‘N’ logo, 3-spoke steering wheel, leather gear knob with ‘N’ branding, metal pedals and red ambient lighting.

Of course, it is packed with features as well. There is a digital instrument cluster, a 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen, automatic climate control, wireless phone charger, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, sunroof, among many other goodies.

In addition, the Hyundai i20 N Line also comes with voice recognition, while the Korean firm has also updated its BlueLink application.

Powering the car is a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that makes 120 PS and 172 Nm of torque. The transmission options include a 6-speed iMT and a 7-speed DCT. The latter option adds paddle shifters on the inside.

Hyundai claims to have improved on-centre steering feel, tweaked the suspension for better handling, and, the car also gets disc brakes on all 4 corners (the front brake calipers are finished in red).

Safety-wise, the new variant of the i20 range features 6 airbags, ESC, VSC, Hill Assist Control (HAC), among others.

When it gets launched, the i20 N Line will command a premium of at least Rs. 1 lakh over the corresponding variants (Sportz, Asta/Asta(O)) of the regular car.

The Hyundai i20 N Line bookings have begun a week before the car’s official reveal

Select dealers of Hyundai have begun accepting bookings for the i20 N Line which is set to be launched soon in India. The token amount for the unofficial reservation is Rs. 25,000/-.

The first model from the Korean carmaker to be sold in the nation with the N Line moniker will be officially unveiled on 24th August.

To be offered in N6 (think Sportz trim) and N8 (Asta/Asta (O)) variants, the premium hatchback will feature subtle styling changes when compared to the regular i20.

It will come with a more sportier demeanour thanks to a new radiator grille, reworked bumpers, new side skirts, 17-inch alloy wheels and chromed twin exhaust outlets.

On the interior front, the car will come with N Line parts like the steering wheel, pedals and gear lever, while the upholstery will also be new.

A 1.0-litre turbo petrol motor good for 120 PS and 172 Nm of torque will power the i20 N Line. While the 6-speed iMT can be had in both N6 and N8 variants, the the 7-speed DCT only comes in the N8 trim.

It is likely that Hyundai will retune the suspension of the car, which will cost more than the equivalent variants of the regular i20, for a more enthralling driving experience.

The official specs and variants of the Hyundai i20 N Line, which will be launched in the market this year, have been revealed thanks to leaked type approval documents.

Hyundai will offer the sportier i20 in 2 trims – N6 and N8. The N6 variant is based on the regular i20’s Sportz trim, while the N8 is based on the Asta/Asta (O) variant.

The leaked Hyundai i20 N Line specs reveal that a sole 998cc turbo petrol engine putting out 120 PS and 172 Nm of torque will power the premium hatchback. It can be mated to either a 6-speed iMT or a 7-speed DCT.

While the iMT will be offered in both N6 and N8 variants of the i20 N Line, the DCT can only be had with the range-topping N8 trim.

In terms of dimensions the i20 N Line is identical to the regular model. However, visually, there will be differences, for the upcoming model will be positioned as a sportier version of the premium hatchback.

The car will have an N Line radiator grille (which was recently teased), sportier bumpers, 17-inch alloy wheels and twin-muffler exhaust pipes. Inside, there will be plentiful N Line parts and a different upholstery that will suit the car’s demeanour.

It is a given that, due to the cosmetic enhancements, the Hyundai i20 N Line will cost more than the regular dual tone turbo variants (i20 N Line is likely to be offered only in dual tone form) which cost Rs. 8.97 lakhs for Sportz iMT, Rs. 10.07 lakhs for Asta iMT and Rs. 11.40 lakhs for Asta (O) DCT (ex-showroom, Delhi).

The spotted Hyundai i20 Magna Executive model does not come with an audio system

A new base variant of the Hyundai i20, likely to be called the Magna Executive, has been spotted at a dealership.

This more affordable variant is devoid of fog lights and alloy wheels on the exterior front, while inside, it neither has an audio system nor steering-mounted controls.

Thus, the Hyundai i20 Magna Executive variant is set to be priced lower than the current base trim, the Magna, which costs Rs. 6.85 lakhs when equipped with the 1.2-litre petrol engine and Rs. 8.21 lakhs in diesel guise (prices are ex-showroom, Delhi).

Recently, Hyundai introduced the Creta SX Executive variant which lost a few features in comparison with the standard SX trim, but was also quite a bit more affordable, thanks it costing about Rs. 79,000/- less in comparison.

In line with that move, the recently spotted Hyundai i20 Magna Executive variant is also set to be more affordable, but the kind of price difference it will have when compared with the Magna variant is not known. But, the model is expected to be launched soon.

Currently, the i20 trails the Maruti Suzuki Baleno in the premium hatchback sales in India. In May, it found 3440 new buyers and the introduction of a more affordable variant should increase the vehicle’s sales.

The 2021 Hyundai i20 N Line has been spotted on test runs yet again in India and the development mule was devoid of camouflage for the most part.

Seen in Delhi-NCR by MotorBeamer Anant Vyas, the test mule of the sportier version of the i20 looks pretty much like the model on sale overseas.

The heavily creased bonnet can be seen and similarly part of the car’s headlight is also visible. The front bumper seems to be covered though. But, from the model sold overseas, we can make out that it will have a more aggressive styling than the regular i20.

Along the sides, the 17-inch alloy wheels and the familiar ORVM are present, while at the rear, although this portion of the car is covered, the tail lamps which look similar to the regular i20 and the twin muffler chrome exhaust tips are clearly visible.

Hyundai will also make sure to give the car a more aggressive rear bumper with a triangle-shaped fog lamp to complete the package.

Although interior images of the 2021 Hyundai i20 N Line spotted on test are not available as of now, Hyundai is likely to carry forward the sporty theme inside. Thus, there will be N Line bits like the steering wheel, gear knob, metal pedals, sports seats and red accent stitching inside.

Expected to hit the domestic market soon, the N Line variant of the premium hatchback should come powered by Hyundai’s 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine that will be paired with a 7-speed DCT.

When the car is put on sale here, it will be the first of the South Korean brand’s “N” subdivision models to come to India and is likely to cost around Rs. 12 lakhs (ex-showroom).

A test mule of the Hyundai i20 N Line has been spied on test in Chennai, validating the reports about the carmaker’s plan to launch its “N” subdivision models in India.

This i20 N Line is a more sportier version of the popular premium hatchback. Although the front and rear profiles of the test mule have been covered, we do know how the finished product will look, for the model is available overseas.

Hyundai will give the car exterior enhancements to make it look sporty. Thus, at the front, under the cover, the Hyundai i20 N Line spied on test should sport a new front bumper with a grey character line below the grille.

New 2-tone 17-inch alloy wheels can been seen on the test car and at the back, while only the twin muffler chrome exhaust is visible, the i20 N Line will have a new bumper as well.

Hyundai says the rear bumper enhances the hatchback’s aerodynamic performance and if we could take a peek under the covers, it would also feature a triangle-shaped fog lamp.

The car’s performance-inspired theme will be carried inside as well. There will be a new N Line steering wheel, N Line gear shift knob, sporty seats with bigger bolsters, red accent stitching and metal pedals. Not to mention the car will be offered with plenty of exterior colours along with dual tone options.

Reportedly, the Hyundai i20 N Line spied on test had a sportier exhaust note. We reckon that is due to it sporting the 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine with the new exhaust.

It is likely that the car will be DCT-only and cost around Rs. 12 lakhs (ex-showroom) when it gets launched in a few months’ time.

Those who seek to own a proper hot hatch though will have to wait for the 204 PS i20 N that the South Korean firm is also set to bring to India and yes, it will not be cheap.

Hyundai i20 N Line spotted on test in India? Since all the variants of the hatchback are launched and there’s nothing expected to come apart from the recently reported N Line version, this could be it!

This test mule has been spotted by MotorBeamer Aditya Singh in Delhi. We got these images a couple of days back. Looks like Hyundai is testing the tweaked suspension and revised steering of the sportier N Line.

While the Hyundai i20 N Line spotted here looks like the regular variant since there is no visual change. However, they will be updating some mechanicals which the engineers are testing ahead of its launch by mid-2021.

There will be no change in the performance department since the 1.0-litre 120 PS turbo petrol engine will be carried over this sporty model. However, the N Line trim will get a new all-black grille with N Line badging, the bumpers will be new and the alloys will be sportier.

The interior, just like the international model, will get all-black treatment along with red embellishments. It comes with red stitching on the seats and upholstery along with red accents on the AC vents and door pads. There is a different three-spoke steering wheel to lend a sporty look.

The pricing is expected to be in the ballpark of Rs. 12 lakhs (ex-showroom) and it’s likely to launch by mid-2021.

Hyundai is stepping up their game in the Indian market as they decide to introduce their performance sub-brand N in India with the Hyundai i20 N Line launch in mid-2021.

While the full blown N series of cars come with substantial mechanical changes including larger and more powerful engine along with more aerodynamic exterior, the N Line series of cars get subtle sporty exterior tweaks and mild mechanical updates. It’s the same difference you see in AMG and AMG Line cars of Mercedes, M and M Sport variants of BMW.

Yes, both N Line and N series of cars are in the pipeline for India launch. However, the N Line models will be seen first in India starting from the Hyundai i20 N Line launch by mid-2021.

The engine will remain the same 120 PS 1.0-litre turbo unit but there will be some suspension tweaks to make it stiffer offering sportier handling. The exterior will get new grille, bumpers and alloy wheels along with gloss black embellishments and of course some N Line badges.

It is expected to be priced at around Rs. 12 lakhs (ex-showroom). Hyundai is also considering to introduce N Line variants for the Nios, Venue and some other cars including the upcoming Elantra.

Now the full blown i20 N is also on the cards. It is a Volkswagen Polo GTI rival. Powered by a 1.6-litre turbo petrol engine producing 204 HP and 270 Nm of torque. It does 0-100 km/hr in 6.7 seconds.

This will be introduced under the 2500 car CBU quota scheme. Pricing is expected to be in the range of Rs. 25-30 lakhs (ex-showroom). If the full-blown performance oriented N range of cars get popular in India, Hyundai might consider local assembly of the sporty range to get the prices down.
